This year in the UK, World AIDS Day is about reminding us all that HIV is an issue for everyone.

Thousands of new cases of HIV are still being diagnosed in the UK each year and the only way we can stop it spreading is by creating a more AIDS Aware society in which everyone takes action.

World AIDS Day is commemorated around the globe on 1 December. It celebrates progress made in the battle against the epidemic and brings into focus remaining challenges.

The theme for the World AIDS Campaign 2004 is Women, Girls, HIV and AIDS. The year-long campaign, culminating in World AIDS Day on 1 December, seeks to accelerate the global response to HIV and AIDS through a focus on women and girls – preventing new infections, promoting equal access to treatment and mitigating the impact of AIDS.
