WHY COUNSELLING
You may feel confused or unsure of yourself at certain
times in your life. Talking to a counselor may
help you to make sense of your thoughts and
feelings. It may develop your confidence and help
you control your own life. Talking to a friend
means talking to someone who needs you as much as you
need them, that will colour their responses to
you. However, a counselor will be able to offer a
more objective way of being with you, which is informed
by the personal work they have done, coupled with their
knowledge of psychological theory
WHAT
ISSUES
Counselling
can offer you the opportunity to reflect on your
circumstances in a safe, supportive, caring and confidential
environment. It can enable you to access your inner
resources and gain greater self awareness, promoting change
through the exploration of your choices with an objective
practitioner.
People
come for counselling for many reasons and which may
include:-
|
Isolation
Anxiety
Relationships
Sexuality
Decision
making
|
Depression
Worry
Grief
Lack
of meaning or direction
Self
esteem
Confidence
|
These
are examples of the issues people might want to talk
about. You are still welcome to ring for an
appointment if you want to talk over an issue which is not
on the list.
THE
FORMAT OF THE SESSIONS
I
see clients for 50 minute sessions which provide a good
framework for one-to-one work. Most clients attend counselling
once a week, but if you feel the need for more frequent
sessions, this can be arranged.
Counselling
requires a commitment. It can also be an investment for your
future well being.
I
offer a free assessment session. I regard this first
session as a one-off, during which time we have the
opportunity to see whether
we feel able to work together.
